Διάκριση του 2ου Γυμνασίου Σάμου στον Ευρωπαϊκό Διαγωνισμό Astro Pi

Ο Eυρωπαϊκός Οργανισμός Διαστήματος (European Space Agency, ESA) ανακοίνωσε τα τελικά αποτελέσματα της Πρόκλησης Astro Pi.

To 2ο Γυμνάσιο Σάμου είναι ανάμεσα στις βραβευμένες ομάδες που επιλέχθηκαν και ο κώδικας του πειράματός μας που σχεδιάστηκε, εστάλη και εκτελέστηκε στο Διάστημα πάνω στον Διεθνή Διαστημικό Σταθμό (ISS).

Τα δεδομένα που παράγονται από τα πειράματα θα λαμβάνονται πίσω στη γη και θα  διανέμονται στις ομάδες μέχρι τις 15 Μαΐου. Έτσι οι μαθητές θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να εργαστούν σαν πραγματικοί επιστήμονες και να αναλύουν δεδομένα που συλλέγονται στο διάστημα!

Στον διαγωνισμό συμμετείχαν 184 ομάδες από 15 Ευρωπαϊκές χώρες, με περισσότερους από 1800 μαθητές να έχουν σχεδιάσει πειράματα για τον ISS. Ανάμεσα στις 45 νικήτριες ομάδες που επιλέχθηκαν είναι 5 ομάδες από Ελληνικά Σχολεία, ενώ 4 ακόμα Ελληνικές Ομάδες (ανάμεσά τους και η Ομάδα μας Samians) ήταν ανάμεσα στις Highly commended ομάδες της Δεύτερης φάσης.

Όπως αναφέρει η ανακοίνωση της ESA: "An evaluation panel composed of ESA, and Raspberry Pi Foundation, selected the experiments that have been qualified to fly. The submissions were evaluated based on several criteria ranging from scientific value, innovation, feasibility of the mission within the ISS environment, clarity, comprehensiveness, and code quality and readability. The juries were so impressed with the quality of some entries that we also created a ?highly commended? category. Like that more 19 teams have won the chance to have their codes run in space."

Το Astro Pi είναι το όνομα ενός μικρού υπολογιστή που αναπτύχθηκε από το Ίδρυμα Raspberry Pi, σε συνεργασία με τον Οργανισμό Διαστήματος  του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου και της ESA. Ο ευρωπαϊκός διαγωνισμός Astro Pi, είχε σαν στόχο να σχεδιάσουν  οι  μαθητές ένα επιστημονικό πείραμα που μπορεί να τρέξει με τη χρήση αισθητήρων Astro Pi , και να γράψουν τον κώδικα του  Astro Pi για να εκτελεστεί αυτό το πείραμα πάνω στον ISS.

Dear Astro Pi Team,

ESA, in collaboration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, would like to congratulate you all for your excellent work. Considering the high calibre of your mission, your code has been selected as a ?Highly Commended? entry and has been qualified to fly to the International Space Station (ISS) on the same SD cards as the winning codes. Congratulations!

After receiving more than 180 entries,  it was very difficult to choose the best experiments to run on the ISS. An evaluation panel, composed of ESA and the Raspberry Pi Foundation, selected the experiments that have been qualified to fly. The submissions were evaluated based on the following criteria: scientific value, innovation, feasibility of the mission within the ISS environment, clarity, comprehensiveness, and  code quality, and readability.

Your code will now be uplinked to the ISS to run on the Astro Pis in the Columbus module, under the careful supervision of ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet. The collected data will be downlinked to Earth and distributed to the teams by 15 May 2017. You will then have the chance to analyse the data collected in space and to continue your amazing work ? like a real space scientist!

Once again, we would like to congratulate all of the teams, students, and teachers, that participated in this project.
